CraftM8 › FAQ
What the apps do
Straight answers about the whole family. Everything below is true of the shipped code — the same promises the apps state on their own About screens. For quilting questions, see the QuiltM8 FAQ.
Do the calculators work without internet?
Yes — everything is worked out on the phone. A fabric shop with no signal, a basement sewing room, an airplane seat: all supported. Nothing you type is ever sent anywhere, because there is nowhere to send it.
Is it a subscription?
No. The paid packs are one payment on Google Play and they are yours forever. There is no subscription and there never will be.
Do the free calculators stay free?
Yes, and it is not just a good intention: the list of free tools is written down where the app is built, and a release that moved one behind the price would simply fail to build. In QuiltM8 that is 26 of 31 calculators, free forever — not a trial, not a teaser.
How do I know the numbers are right?
Because you do not have to take our word for it. Every answer opens into the arithmetic that produced it, every formula says where it came from, and each one is worked out twice by different hands — so a slip in one shows up as a disagreement with the other before it ever reaches you. Thousands of worked examples are re-run before any release goes out.
Can I see how an answer was calculated?
Yes — every result has a “Show the maths” panel underneath it, with the steps in the order they happened and the assumptions each one used. Use it when a number surprises you: it is quicker than re-deriving on paper, and if we are wrong you can point at the exact line.
Does it work in centimetres as well as inches?
Yes, properly: metric changes the buying increment (0.1 m, not 1/8 yd) and the cut grid (millimetres, not eighths), not just the label. You can also switch units mid-calculation without losing what you typed.
Can I move my work to a new phone?
Yes. Export puts every project, worksheet and setting into a file you keep; import restores it on any phone. No account needed — there is nothing to sign into.
What does CraftM8 collect about me?
Nothing. No account, no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting — nobody is told which tools you open. The privacy policy is one page because there is nothing to disclose. This website behaves the same way: no cookies, no trackers.
Is it readable at a cutting table?
That is what it is designed for: large type, large touch targets, full support for the biggest system text size, and a workshop mode that raises contrast and keeps the screen awake while a tool is open.
What happens to my work if CraftM8 disappears?
Nothing. The app runs entirely on your phone — there is no server to switch off. Your projects export to an ordinary file you can open and read anywhere, backups restore onto any phone, and a pack you bought stays bought. An app you own keeps working; a file you exported is yours for good.
Why is there no iPhone version?
Focus. One platform done properly — exact arithmetic, readable at any text size, checked before every release — beats two done adequately. If it earns its audience on Android, iPhone is the obvious next step, and it will be announced here rather than hinted at.
Why is some of it paid?
Most of it is not. The calculators, the quilt plan, saving, searching and export are free forever. The paid packs are the work around the answers — the printable documents, pricing your work, keeping many quilts in order. One payment, no subscription. You pay once, which is also why we have no need for your data.
Which crafts are covered?
Quilting first — QuiltM8 is the deepest of them. Knitting, soap making and cross-stitch are being built on the same arithmetic, and a fourth craft appears the day its name clears its trademark checks. One promise across all of them, and one colour each.
